Snorkeling one day in 2012, I came up from a hard swim feeling breathless and with pain in my lungs.
Biopsies of my lungs showed I had familial IPF, a rare form of Pulmonary Fibrosis. IPF causes thickening and scarring of lung tissue. This hinders the flow of oxygen into my bloodstream, making even simple activities increasingly difficult or impossible.
My disease has steadily progressed. I now have had a successful double lung transplant September 24th 2020. I am feeling great 7 weeks post surgery. I am also a participant in a Familial study at National Jewish Medical Research in Colorado.
I am also committed to supporting those who suffer from IPF and who need information, encouragement and hope. I co-lead my local chapter of the Garden State Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group which helps IPF sufferers and their caregivers.
I ask you to join me in my quest to raise awareness, find a cure, and offer support to those with IPF.
