Why I Support Gunpowder Valley Conservancy
Having spent 37 years working at the Bethlehem Steel Sparrows Point plant, my focus was on making the plant profitable. It was my wife who suggested that we participate in the Johns Hopkins University’s Certificate for Environmental Studies. I learned that the earth, our home, was like a living organism that helps to maintain and perpetuate the conditions for life on this planet. In 1990, I volunteered with the GVC during their first Gunpowder Falls State Park clean up. What an experience to see all the trash that had been dumped in such a wonderful natural resource. This awakened my commitment to make a difference in caring for our environment. I have now volunteered with the GVC for 30+ years!
Formed in 1989, Gunpowder Valley Conservancy (GVC) is a Baltimore County-based land trust and watershed restoration nonprofit. When you donate to my personal fundraising page, your tax-deductible donation helps GVC promote and work for:
Clean drinking water from Prettyboy and Loch Raven Reservoir
Climate resiliency through native tree plantings and preserved lands
Community pride in neighborhood streams that have regular clean-up events
Pollinator habitat that also filters pollutants and reduces standing water
Protecting our community watershed is something that should unite us all. Please help me reach my fundraising goal and make a difference for future generations!
