The news feed on Haiti is not for the weak of heart. An internet search will reveal that things are dismal with gang violence even hindering humanitarian aid efforts. I won’t pretend to have any answers but because of strong-hearted people who tenaciously care, I do have a glimmer of hope that things can change. Regardless if the situation changes or not, children have to eat.
I need you to help me do this again for my fourth year. On Oct 21st I will be working together with more than a couple hundred other local volunteers at Hope Lutheran Church in Bozeman. Together, we’ll assemble vitamin fortified lunches of rice, beans, and dehydrated vegetables. It costs about $86 to provide one Haitian student a lunch for every school day through 2024. Can we pool our donations and finance these lunches for at least 30 children attending the Bois Negresse school?
Packathon goals:

$25,000 will Provide Lunches for 178 students through 2024, including the summer months! Because there is a bit of a backlog in getting last year's shipment delivered, we will pack "only" 50,000 meals this year.

$5,000 will Provide Textbooks for all students in Bois Negresse.
Let me tell you a few things about Haiti:

Only 60% of adults can read at a 6th grade level.

Their government is in disarray due to gang violence in the capitol, but in the mountains where Future Forward for Haiti sends food, school continues each day.

The average income is $350 per year.

Some children cannot count on even one meal a day.
