On October 21, I plan to pack at least 240 lunches--enough for a Haitian student to enjoy every weekday through 2024! And I would love to finance the food I pack as well! That would be about $86. Or maybe, together, we could provide for more children. What do you think?
I'll be working for two hours with more than a hundred other local volunteers at Hope Lutheran Church in Bozeman. Together, we'll assemble vitamin fortified lunches of rice, beans, and dehydrated vegetables.
Packathon goals:
- $25,000 will Provide Lunches for 178 students through 2024, including the summer months! Because there is a bit of a backlog, we will pack "only" 50,000 meals this year.
- $5,000 will Provide Textbooks for all students in Bois Negresse.
Let me tell you a few things about Haiti:
- Only 60% of adults can read at a 6th grade level.
- Their government is in disarray due to gang violence in the capitol, but in Future Forward for Haiti' partner communities in the mountains, school continues each day.
- The average income is $350 per year.
- Some children cannot count of even one meal a day.
