The Packathon for Haiti is a cause very close to my heart, as I am a middle schooler myself. Participating in class and doing my very best is incredibly difficult if I'm hungry. This is the unfortunate reality for many Haitian children in school right now, I'm so glad that I have the opportunity to help. It feels amazing to make a difference! On October 19, I plan to pack at least 180 lunches, that's enough for one Haitian student to enjoy every school day through 2025! I would love to finance that food as well! That will cost about $70. Or maybe, together, we could provide for more students. Will you help me?
I'll be working 90 minutes with about three hundred other local volunteers at Hope Lutheran Church in Bozeman. Together, we'll assemble vitamin fortified lunches of rice, soy protein, and dehydrated vegetables.
Packathon goals:
- $30,000 will Provide Lunches for 190 students through 2025, including the summer months!
- 30,000 meals will be packed at our event and more will be locally sourced in Haiti as necessary.
Let me tell you a few things about Haiti:

Only 60% of adults can read at a 6th grade level.

The average income is $350 per year.

Some children cannot count of even one meal a day.

Packathon food has always arrived safely, though sometimes delayed.

Their government is in disarray due to gang violence in the capitol, but in Future Forward for Haiti's partner communities in the mountains, school continues each day. Kenya is leading an international security force to bolster Haitian police, so there is real hope for better days soon.
