Why I Build

I'm thrilled to be fundraising to support the building costs so that a woman-led family can have a safe, affordable place to call home. Please consider donating and joining me in creating stronger futures for women in our community through homeownership! Every participant is asked to raise $250.

I am very comfortable on a job site. Fun Fact: One of my first jobs after high school was assisting my brother-in-law with residential electrical work. Laborious, gritty jobs do not turn me off. Whether it's hauling wood chips for walking paths (Inspiration Ministries), using a chain saw to cut fire wood (Camp Hickory), driving a dump truck (Silver Birch Ranch), or dismantling a storm damaged 12' high chain link fence around two tennis courts (also SBR), I am willing to exert physical effort for other people's benefit.

I have been hunting for construction type mission work. This Women-for-Women Build in Lake County is an exciting opportunity where I can have a positive impact in my own community. On October 12th, I will serve alongside other females. Would you consider supporting me with even a small gift of $10 or $20?

Did you know ...

Achieving housing stability is far more difficult for women to realize than for men in similar situations. Here are just a few reasons why:

  • Men earn more on average than women, resulting in access to higher credit, loans with better terms, and higher-quality homes, and safer neighborhoods.
  • 80% of single-parent households are headed by women and women are twice as likely to be the primary caretaker for an elderly parent. This can limit a woman’s ability to dedicate the necessary time to obtaining and maintaining consistent employment.
  • Single women are denied mortgages at higher rates than single men despite the fact that studies show that women are more reliable at paying back mortgages.

Homeownership is one of the most powerful tools a person can use to build a stronger future; it improves financial, educational, social, and health outcomes for households and communities. However, factors like those listed above hinder many women in their efforts to provide an affordable home for themselves and their families. Women Build is one small step toward raising awareness and ensuring that at least one woman-led household in our community has the opportunity to achieve the dream of homeownership!
