I was diagnosed with Stage 1C ovarian cancer in 2006.  My obstetrician found a mass on my right ovary, during a routine ultrasound, when I was eight weeks pregnant.  By 12 weeks, it had nearly doubled in size.  At 13 weeks, I was in surgery to remove the mass (and my right ovary).  Luckily, my son had saved my life!  If it weren't for my pregnancy, I may never have known about the mass.

I'm excited to continue volunteering with OCI in the fight against ovarian cancer.  I am hoping to bring more awareness to you regarding the detection and treatment of this silent disease.

In the United States alone, more than 22,000 new cases of ovarian cancer are diagnosed annually. The diagnoses of a friend or loved one is frequently a surprise due to the lack of preventative testing and subtle symptoms. Ovarian cancer is often diagnosed in late stages, however, for patients fortunate to detect ovarian cancer early, or Stage I, the survival rate is over 90%.

The research conducted at the OCI-funded laboratory at GA Tech focuses on accurate, early stage diagnostics and improved, targeted and tailor-made therapeutics to change the future of women suffering from ovarian cancer.  Your donation will go directly towards this research.
