Ella was diagnosed with double inlet left ventricle, hypoplastic right heart and pulmonary stenosis. She was born 6 weeks early and spent the first month of her life at Children's NICU/Infant Care Center while she learned to eat and her cardiology team monitored her heart. She was discharged to home and enrolled in the home monitoring program which entailed daily weight check, pulse ox testing throughout each day, home nursing care, weekly phone checks with cardiology and a visit to Children's Heart Center every 3 weeks. She was stable. We scheduled her Glenn, open heart surgery for April 1. She did well after surgery until day 10 when she went into severe respiratory distress. She was airlifted to Children's to discover she had a chyle leak. She spent the next 3 weeks hospitalized while waiting for chest tubes to drain and finding the right fat free formula for her. Since then she has had a heart cath, a CT Angiogram and is scheduled for her 2nd heart cath for March. Children's Heart Center became our second home over the past 18 months and we are looking forward to participate in this event to raise money for the Cardiac Unit to help other local kiddos like Ella.
