From the moment we found out about our daughter Vera's heart condition, our family's world completely changed. We were constantly scared we would never get to hold our daughter, feared her grandparents would never get to see her smile, wondered if our daughter, Ruby, would ever know what it would be like to be a big sister. Through the uncertainty of it all, there was always one thing that remained a constant, The Children's Hospital. They would do everything they could to make those fears, remain just fears, and not become reality.
Fast forward to the present, and the reality is, our family has had many more ups and down. We've seen an aunt and two uncles leave us way too soon, and cancer strike those we love most. We have learned that there are no certainties in life. But, that scared feeling for our daughter has since faded to pure joy. When we hold Vera, see her smile at her papa and grandma, play with her big sister, we are reminded how far she's come. How far we've come. Vera is strong, she is brave, and she is here.
Through all those ups and downs, we have had a beautiful little girl staring back at us, showing us how amazing life is and how brave and strong we can be too. She is our reminder every day, to tell the one's we love how much we love them. Vera mean's faith in Russian. We continue to have faith that the Children's Hospital is doing everything they can to keep Vera here with us. They are still the constant in an otherwise uncertain world.
