Hi, my name's Jonathan. I'm a Roanoke native that has been obsessed with the world and cultures near and far. After dropping out of college I came back to Roanoke and launched a company called Roanoke Connect. It was a data base website that allowed locals to create profiles and post parties. From there we pivoted and started creating our own events, where we eventually got sponsored by big brands like Young&Reckless+Redbull to create college parties at different universities. I then teamed up with a few developers from Roanoke College to create the first software based delivery service in Virginia called Fetch. At our peak we had almost 50 drivers. Because it was software based I could live anywhere and so I decided to travel the world. Food is my passion but business is my obsession. Seeing food from all parts of the world gave me inspiration to launch multiple restaurants in our area. Some were before its time but some hit right on time. I'm currently involved with Saltys Lobster & Co, Flaneur Picnic Co, and Wicked Lemon. We have 3 food trucks and three lemonade stands using pneumatic presses to make fresh lemonade.
What strengths did you observe in the family? What did you learn from the family? What were your takeaways?
I visited a single mom with three children, one of which had several medical complications. The mom was in need of transportation to doctor’s appointments to which the nurse helped to troubleshoot and arrange using the CHIP van. The CHIP nurse completed a respiratory assessment on one of the children. She also discussed the most recent doctor’s appointment. The nurse clearly had built a strong rapport with the family and they were comfortable talking with her. It’s clear that CHIP provides invaluable assistance and resources to local families in need.
