As most of you know, our son Breck Charles was born on August 4th, 2014 with a rare heart condition called hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS). It is a complex heart defect in which the structures on the left side of his heart (side which receives blood from the lungs and pumps it out to the body) are severely underdeveloped. This results in him only having one ventricle which has to do “double duty” of pumping blood both to the lungs and out to the body. Essentially, he has half a heart. However, in order for all of this to function properly 3 open heart surgeries must be performed. Breck had his 1st surgery at 4 days old and his 2nd at four months and we couldn’t be happier with his prognosis to date. The third surgery is not performed until 2-3 years of age. He is doing great and always seems so happy and smiley!

This walk directly benefits the Cardiovascular Care Center (CVCC) at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis, which is where Breck spent the first month of his life as well as his stay during his 2nd surgery. The care he has received has been first class. All of different nurse, doctors, surgeons, and various other Children's employees we have dealt with have been exceptional. We will forever be grateful for the work they do and are looking forward to taking part in this event and raising money for a cause that means a great deal to us.

If you would like to join us for the 5K Walk/Run it is on Saturday June 27 at Father Hennepin Bluffs Park in Minneapolis. The link is below, which also includes more about the logistics of the event. Our team name is "Breck's Beating Buddies"! There are also lots of kid related activities (face painting, bounce houses, etc.) taking place as well. The registration cost for ages 10+ is $35, ages 2-9 is $20 and under 2 years is free! These fees of course go towards the cause as well.
