The Heaty Hoogs are participating in this event because I, Vicki, was born with Complete Conginital Full Heart Block. At the time there was not a lot of information about this defect, and I was considered a miracle baby. Dr. Singh diagnosed my condition at Children's Hospital. I lived a completely normal life, except my continous cardiology visits. It was in 2002 that we discovered that I also had atrial flutter. My heart rate started becoming very slow at night while sleeping as well, and this became a big concern. Due to the atrial, flutter I was cardioverted a week after this appointment. Up until this point, I was never on any medication or had any surgeries, I was very lucky! But that ended in 2002, I had my first dual lead pacemaker implanted, and let me be honest I was scared. I was 24 years old, and it was a very scary situation for me. All the staff especially Dr. Singh and Dr. Burton made this much easier. They were always there to answer my questions, address my concerns, and just be there to listen. Once the pacemaker was implanted I got to become part of the pacemaker clinic patients. The staff there is amazing. Tait was always there for me, no matter what concerns or issues I had. I have since been cardioverted 1 other time, had 2 ablation surgeries, and had my 2nd pacemaker implanted. After all of this I feel great! I am living a completely normal life and I owe it all to Children's Heart Clinic and Dr. Singh! I am participating this year to show my appreciation and thanks to the Clinic and the Staff, but also to let everyone know, a heart condition does not have to control your life. I am proof of that! I look forward to this event, it is my time to give back!!
