More Than a Shelter
Since 1929, the Potter League for Animals has been there for animals and the people who love them. What began as a local effort to protect abandoned, sick, and mistreated animals has grown into one of Rhode Island’s leading animal welfare organizations and a trusted resource for pets and people throughout our community.
Today, the Potter League impacts the lives of more than 13,000 animals each year through our programs and services. At our Animal Care & Adoption Center in Middletown, we provide shelter, veterinary care, enrichment, behavior support, and individualized care for approximately 2,000 dogs, cats, rabbits, and other companion animals annually.
But our work reaches far beyond the walls of the shelter.
Through the Potter League Spay & Neuter Clinic in Warwick, we help make high-quality, affordable spay and neuter services accessible to pet owners and animals throughout Rhode Island and beyond. Our community programs provide additional support through wellness and vaccine clinics, pet food assistance, behavior and training resources, humane education, outreach, and other services designed to help keep pets healthy, happy, and with the people who love them.
We also work alongside local and national partners to respond when animals and communities need us most, whether through disaster response, animal welfare collaborations, community outreach, or advocacy for policies that improve the lives of animals.

Every fundraiser, team, and donation through the Heart & Sole Walk helps us continue providing compassionate care and essential resources to more than 13,000 animals each year.

The Potter League for Animals is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization and relies on charitable contributions to support our programs and services. Donations are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Donors who provide their contact information will receive an acknowledgment of their contribution for tax purposes.
