Neo's Story

Animal Control Officer Kathleen fell in love with a dog she named Neo, a skinny pup who arrived covered in road rash and unable to walk or stand. He was in obvious, excruciating pain. Neo was put on pain medication during his 72-hour stray hold and was scheduled for euthanasia, but Kathleen knew she couldn’t let him die - there was something very special about this dog. At less than a year old and clearly suffering, Neo nonetheless was the sweetest dog and had “a huge will to survive.” Indeed, the pup was given a reprieve of one more day due to bad weather - clearly, fate had something else in mind for this incredible dog, rather than dying young in a shelter.

Kathleen began reaching out to rescue groups begging for help. While Brother Wolf focuses on animals from our own county and our chapter communities, Kathleen’s desperate plea and her extraordinary commitment to the animals in her care touched our hearts, and we agreed to take him and see if we could save him. On arrival in Asheville, our partner veterinarians were devastated to learn Neo’s injuries were more than three weeks old! This poor pup had been suffering for SO long.

We believe Neo’s legs can be healed and he can live a pain-free life, but we desperately need your help to make it happen. Both of Neo’s femurs were broken, and he requires two surgeries and months of recovery. Neo’s name means “new beginning’ and ‘gift.’ Please help us give this gentle boy the new beginning he deserves. He clearly has a gift he is meant to give the world.
