What is Hike For Kids and how does this work?
Blue Sky Fund is a non-profit organization that provides transformative outdoor experiences to youth of color in Richmond, VA. Blue Sky's annual fundraiser - Hike For Kids - is VIRTUAL this year, meaning that you can sign up to #TakeAHikeForKids on ANY trail on ANY day of October. Each step on the hiking path will help Blue Sky Fund make the outdoors more accessible for youth of color in Richmond.
For University of Richmond team members we have mapped out hiking routes on campus! Grab a map here: https://recreation.richmond.edu/common/PDF/Hike-For-Kids-2020-UR-Trail-Map.pdf or on our website: https://recreation.richmond.edu/outdoor-adventure/index.html and follow the "Hike For Kids" Arrows and signs. Start at the the Weinstein Center for Recreation, and follow the "Hike For Kids" signs to complete the 3.8 mile trail! Take pictures along the way and tag @outdoor.adventure.rec.ur and @blueskyfund on Instagram and use the hashtag #TakeAHikeForKids.
To make the virtual hike more fun and engaging, Blue Sky launched several hiker challenges with cool outdoor prizes, such as the #SquadGoals challenge to build the biggest team of hikers to hit the trails together in spirit, and the Explorer of the Day challenge to be Blue Sky's featured photo of the day (and win a free pair of Tevas!). Every dollar raised from your participation as a hiker directly supports Blue Sky's efforts to advance racial equity in the outdoors for youth of color.
