Michael J. Reimer, JD., PhD.

Humanitarian Honoree

Hattie Segal (posthumous)

As a provider for Spectrum360, Brian Tarpey and his team have been successful in assisting our organization for 4 years in making sure we have a comprehensive benefit plan at very competitive rates. Tarpey Group has most recently helped Spectrum360 secure a grant from our health insurance provider to start a health and wellness initiative. This will enhance our nearly 400 staff with better physical, mental and nutritional health.

It is clear that Tarpey Group is invested in our organization and truly cares about the work we do. Not only do they provide a great service to us, they have generously supported our fundraising efforts as premier sponsors at our Golf Tourmaent and Hall of Fame Dinner over the past 4 years.

It really is a family affair with the Tarpey's; his wife, Penny, is an interior desiginer who has donated her services to make our Lower School bright and cheerful.

Tarpey Group is more than a vendor for our organization; they have been an excellent partner and impactful donor over the last four years.

Michael J. Reimer’s relationship with Spectrum360 began over 35 years ago when his wife, Jane, who was the president of the Friends organization, led 600 woman to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund Spectrum360, formerly the Children’s Institute. Thanks to his incredible wife, we gained a lifelong ally, supporter, and friend in Mike. For over 3 decades, Mike has served on the Board of Trustees and he has held the role of President for the past 8 years.  When he first served on the Board, there were fewer than thirty students and a budget of less than $400,000.  Under his leadership, we created a new High School; an even newer addition on the way, an adult program and an expansion of that program; and an upcoming new school for the elementary school. Spectrum360 just keeps getting better. Mike is a hands-on President; he rolls up his sleeves, attends countless meetings, negotiates, and gets the job done. A lot of the growth that has happened is accredited to his vision and support. Mike keeps the legacy of his wife going by being involved, and the legacy continues with his son, Marc and his wife, Miriam.

Mr. Reimer holds a B.A. in Political Science and International Relations from The American University, and a Ph.D. in International Relations from Rutgers University. In his spare time, he enjoys laughing with his seven granddaughters, and playing tennis and pickleball.  Dr. Reimer has practiced law for more than four decades, but limits that practice now. He presently teaches courses in law, global theory, political science, and international relations at a State University.

Hattie Segal was an extraordinary gift to humanity, a natural leader, and a loving wife to the late Arnold Segal. Exceptionally kind and caring with a radiant smile, she touched many lives. As both an activist and philanthropist, she supported many organizations to build a better America, a better Israel, and a better world. Hattie and her husband Arnold were involved in transforming the Hebrew Orphanage and Sheltering Home in Newark, founded in 1883, into The Children’s Institute (TCI), now Spectrum360, in 1963. She was instrumental in creating TCI,her philosophy for the organization resonates in our mission statement, “the most important thing is to care for the children and provide them with all the programs, services and opportunities that all children need.” Hattie and her family have been generously supporting our mission since it’s inception for over 50 years.

Her children, Richard, Kenneth, and Stephen; their wives, Poppy, Karen, and Patty; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with the Spectrum360 community,  will always be inspired by her memory with love and gratitude.
