I support AOC to honor the memory of my brother, Jerry and help those currently living with the disease.

He was the 5th child of 10, and I remember his intelligence, sense of humor, and kind spirit.  He was a great athlete, and played baseball at Paschal High School, enjoyed golf and hockey, and shared his enthusiasm by coaching  and refereeing youth sports.

He volunteered with the Jerry Lewis MDA organization for over 10 years.  The highlight of his summer was being a counselor at the MDA Summer Camps.

I asked my mom one day why Jerry had stopped volunteering at the Summer Camps, and her response revealed the deepness of Jerry’s connection to the campers.  Each year he would receive a letter informing him that one of his campers had succumbed to the complications of MDA.  The death of these campers had a profound impact on Jerry, and he eventually decided he could no longer face a summer camp knowing someone would be missing.  He gave of his time and energy to the organization in other areas.

Through the years I have met people who knew Jerry through MDA, and they have the utmost appreciation for Jerry’s commitment and dedication.

Jerry Strittmatter is missed by his siblings, nieces, nephews, and numerous friends; however, he left a legacy through his volunteerism and love that touched numerous lives.
