Hello Friends,
As a volunteer Circle Keeper and Research Coordinator with Hidden Water, I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative impact that healing in community can have for those affected by child sexual abuse. Our research at Hidden Water is a vital part of understanding how to make this impact even stronger and more accessible.
Over the past year, we’ve embarked on a groundbreaking research project, conducting in-depth interviews with first-time participants before, immediately after, and six months after their involvement in our restorative justice circles. The insights are powerful: participants shared that child sexual abuse impacts every area of life, disrupting connections with others and with themselves in persistent ways. Despite exploring multiple avenues of healing, many still feel isolated, burdened by shame, and disconnected from their families and communities.
At Hidden Water, people find relief, connection, and the safety of a supportive community. Participants have shared that, for the first time, they’re able to confront these experiences directly, alleviate isolation, and feel empowered in a space where others truly understand. The boundaried, intentional setting provides a unique environment for healing without the pressure of leading others through their journey.
But our work isn’t finished. This Giving Tuesday, we’re raising funds to complete the final cohort of interviews, analyze the data, and ultimately publish our findings to share with the broader community. Your support will allow us to document and share these insights, helping others understand the profound impact of community-based healing—and strengthening the case for more accessible, free, and low-cost resources for those affected by child sexual abuse.
Thank you for supporting this important work. Together, we’re building a future where healing is within reach for everyone.
Warmly,
Denise Kerth
