Understanding the reality of a young person becoming pregnant through sexual harm—especially when the offender is within their own family—does not fit neatly into pro-life or pro-reproductive freedom discussions. When we ask a young person not only to understand what has happened to them but also to advocate for their medical care and prove they were harmed, we’re demanding the impossible. Overcoming barriers of shame, self-blame, trauma, and complex family dynamics is already a daunting challenge; adding the expectation that they navigate legal and medical obstacles, often against the state, is unrealistic.
At Hidden Water, we believe in creating a network of informed, supportive adults around young people, so that they don’t face these impossible situations alone. Our work focuses on empowering parents, family members, and adult advocates with the tools to create safer environments and offer compassionate, informed support when harm occurs. We know that a one-size-fits-all approach cannot address the needs of young survivors; every case is unique and should be guided by the young person’s voice and their trusted supporters.
Supporting Team Reproductive Rights and Privacy means backing Hidden Water’s mission to equip families with the skills to advocate for young survivors and respect their privacy and autonomy. By empowering families, we help ensure that young people impacted by sexual harm receive the support they need to make their own choices and heal in safe, nurturing environments.
Thank you for standing with us to protect the rights, dignity, and futures of all young people.
