Improvements in education directly correlate to reductions in poverty, economic growth, and better health and well-being. 

If there is one thing that I’ve learned over the past four years at UMD, it’s that education matters. People can take everything away from you, but they can’t take away your knowledge. Education is the most important catalyst to changing the world, empowering communities, and lifting families globally out of extreme poverty. I have been beyond blessed with the opportunities and education I have had and am keenly aware that about 258 million children are currently out of school. It takes a village, and I wouldn’t be anything without my family who have unconditionally supported me and teachers that taught me to believe in my ability to make a mark on the world. That’s why I’m teaming up with Islamic Relief to raise funds to build a classroom in Kenya to empower children to reach their full potential and become changemakers in their community. Ensuring access to an education is especially important for young girls, who are often left behind when resources are scarce, because we all know empowered women empower women.
