David was born in 2010 and diagnosed at birth with Down syndrome. We quickly learned about all of the local services available to children with DS and felt support through Down syndrome parents' groups. We enrolled David in a school that focused on children with Down syndrome, and he felt at home there.

As David grew, he became less verbal and started exhibiting stimming behavoirs (self-stimulation actvities like rocking back and forth and shaking his hands). Around age 4, David was officially diagnosed with autism.

David's school was no longer a good fit, so we looked at other options in the Dallas area, both public and private. Thankfully we discovered It's a Sensory World!, where David has now been for over 10 years.

ISW is located in Farmers Branch, TX, about a mile west of the Dallas Galleria. ISW Academy is the school itself, where David attends 5 days a week from August-May. But ISW also has summer camps, a sensory gym and even a sensory bus.

ISW Academy benefits from small classes with a high teacher-to-student ratio, and David really loves his teachers. ISW's greatest strength is its staff, from the administration to the classroom teachers and therapists. They all care about each child and they work tirelessly for their benefit. David has been happy there and we plan to keep him at ISW as long as we can.

It's a Sensory World! is a necessity for those of us with children there, but many who do need a place like ISW cannot afford it.
