As a youngster in school I was always SOOO excited when they said that the Junior Achievement person would be coming. Yes, I am kind of a nerd, I couldn't help but to love math, home economics and living skills. I am the youngest of 6 children, and was always "Mommy's Helper" so I was good at those particular subjects because of what working beside my mother had taught me.
The first time I saw that our company was looking for people to get involved with Junior Achievement I jumped right on! I just think that, as a child, growing up in today's society that is so extremely important for children to learn the things that Junior Achievement teaches. Let's be honest, most households these days have 2 full-time working parents and some parents are just not able to spend the time teaching their children the things that my mother taught me. Most children these days are only interested in their iphone or ipad, they really aren't paying much attention to the outside world. Kids need to know that having the ipad that the child next to them is playing on, is a WANT, and not a NEED. They do not NEED that ipad to survive...they NEED food, clothing, and a roof over their head. Those things come first, and some children these days have no idea how much those basic items really cost and how hard you have to work to pay for one of them, let alone, all of them, and also pay your rent, light bill and have running water. One of JA's basic curriculum teaches just that, the difference between a need and a want. By teaching children these things starting at a young age, it also makes them more appreciative of gifts and other nice things as they then have some realization of how much it cost, and how much that person worked to be able to purchase that item.
I can't believe it but this is my 6th year participating in the bowling classic and my 5th year as our Company Coordinator. Time sure does FLY by!! Last year, with matched funds from EBSCO, we were able to raise over $10,250!! This year we are shooting for $10,500! Can you help us reach our goal?
Please help me to brighten our childrens futures by donating to Junior Achievement! I so appreciate any amount that you could give. Thank you in advance for your support! :)
