Bananimal shouldn't have lived through this. But she did.
Bananimal was adopted from us… and immediately slipped out of her new family’s arms before she ever really got to begin her new life. For over a month, she was on the run. No food. No safety. By the time she was finally caught, it wasn’t because someone got close enough to help her - it was because she’d been hit by a car. Bananimal is now back at LHS. She is heartbreakingly thin. Her leg had to be amputated to save her life. And now she needs us, all of us, more than ever. We refuse to give up on her. We refuse to let trauma be the thing that defines her future. If you’re able, please donate today to support Bananimal and other animals like her - pets who need ongoing medical care, pain management, specialized nutrition, and a little extra time to heal. Every dollar moves this brave girl closer to recovery — and supports the hundreds of animals currently in our care.
Meet Raisin
When Raisin came to us last year, she was barely hanging on. She weighed just 17 pounds—nearly half of what she should have weighed. Her body was frail, her temperature too low to register, her gums white from anemia. She was covered in sores and scars, her muscles wasted from neglect. Our team worked tirelessly to keep her alive; carefully warming her, running IV fluids, treating infections, and feeding her in tiny, controlled amounts. It took months of care, compassion, and patience. Slowly, she began to heal. Her eyes brightened, her ribs disappeared beneath a healthy weight, and her tail wagged strongly as hope for a better future was just in reach. When Raisin was adopted that summer, she was unrecognizable - a happy, healthy dog ready for the life she always deserved. We sent her to her new home, believing her days of hunger and pain were behind her. But last week, Raisin came back to us. She weighed 19 pounds. Her nails were curled from overgrowth. Her body was covered in fly bites and her own waste. It's hard to describe how it feels to see her like this - how hearts all over the shelter broke, knowing she survived unimaginable neglect, was loved and healed, only to end up right back where she started. We trusted someone with this beautiful dog, and that trust was shattered. But Raisin? She still trusts. She still greets us with soft eyes and a wagging tail. She leans into every hand that reaches out to comfort her. After everything, Raisin is loving, forgiving, and brave in a way that humbles us all. Raisin is safe now. Again. She's being treated and monitored by our veterinary team. Again. This recovery will take time. Again. And she can't do it without you. Please give today to help Raisin heal and make sure she can truly find her happily ever after.
Meet Miracle
When little Miracle was found, he was barely clinging to life. Alone on a sidewalk, weak, and crawling with fleas, his tiny body was shutting down. By chance, a client of our Community Cat Program discovered him and did everything she could to keep him alive. But she knew he was slipping away. She brought him to LHS where our medical team took one look and knew the outlook was grim. But thanks to supporters like you, we could take a chance. He was given a blood transfusion - the only thing that could pull him back from the brink. A staff member cared for him through the weekend, doing everything in her power to help him fight. And against the odds...a miracle happened. That transfusion saved his life. Today, Miracle is living his best life with his adoptive family, and we couldn't be happier. Miracle's journey reminds us how strong even the most fragile creatures can be, and how critical it is that we're here for animals in their darkest hours. Because of your generosity, Miracle is alive today. Please, donate today so we can be ready for the next Miracle.
