The Pinky Swear Story

In December of 2002, nine-year-old Mitch Chepokas, terminally ill with bone cancer, withdrew the entire $6,000 from his savings account and put it in envelopes for kids on the pediatric oncology floor at the hospital.

After giving all of his money away, Mitch’s dad made a pinky swear promise with him to always help children with cancer and their families after he was gone.

Mitch passed away on April 11, 2003, and shortly afterwards, Pinky Swear Foundation was established by his parents to honor the promise he made.

It's Time to Swim. Bike. Run!

Join us for the 5th Annual Pinky Swear Kids Triathlon in Charlotte, NC on Sunday, June 2! This non-timed and non-competitive race for kids ages 6-18 of all abilities is followed by a family festival full of fun, music and food! Join us as an athlete, a volunteer, or corporate sponsor to help support Pinky Swear's mission to help kids with cancer and their families meet basic needs such as housing, food, and transportation. We look forward to seeing you this summer!

Get Ready. Get Set. Fundraise!

Pinky Swear Foundation fundraising events have historically had a registration fee to cover the costs of putting on a fundraising event, as well as provide a small donation to the Foundation.

New This Year: We are eliminating registration fees and instead encouraging participants to fundraise their participation fees. We ask that you fundraise a minimum of $35 to participate in the North Carolina Kids Triathlon ($15 dollars covers your event t-shirt, swim cap, medal and event overhead. $20 goes to support Pinky Swear Foundation and our mission of helping kids with cancer).

So what does this mean? Instead of paying a registration fee of $35 like you have done in the past, we are encouraging you to start a fundraiser. Whether you share your fundraiser online (Facebook, email, etc.), host a lemonade stand in your neighborhood, a “Give Back Night” at your favorite restaurant or something else - $35 can be raised in minutes! Instead of paying your own way into the event, spread awareness for the organization and ask your community to support you.

But I do not want to participate in fundraising, what can I do? If you really do not want to fundraise, you can make a $35 gift to your page to cover your participation minimum (Just like paying a registration fee!), but we encourage you to think about how easy it could be to create a small fundraiser to raise that money. THINK OF HOW MANY MORE KIDS YOU CAN HELP IF YOU RAISE MORE THAN $35!

There are more families with a kid battling cancer in this country than Pinky Swear Foundation can support. It is our goal to minimize that gap, but we need YOUR help. The more money we raise, the more families we can support. Please consider starting a fundraiser and help Pinky Swear Foundation support families who have children with cancer when they need it most!

As a thank you and reward for Pinky Swear Kids Triathlon fundraisers, each participant meeting fundraising milestones will have a choice of fun Pinky Swear-branded gear.
