What is Knox PAWS?
Knox PAWS (Placing Animals With Seniors) matches eligible seniors with adoptable pets. Research indicates that pets improve seniors’ physical, emotional, and mental health. The Knox PAWS program works with area animal shelters to match senior pets with older adults.
The Knox PAWS’s staff match income-eligible seniors with adoptable older pets. Program participants must be 60 years of age or older, residents of Knox County, income-eligible, and live independently in a pet-friendly environment. Pets adopted by Knox PAWS participants are provided with continued veterinary exams, vaccinations, heartworm/flea prevention, grooming services, and other pet supplies or services as needed.
What Does Knox PAWS Provide to Clients?

What is Feed-A-Pet?
The Feed-A-Pet program is for seniors that already own pets, but struggle to afford food for their pets.
- FAP is a monthly pet food delivery service for eligible individuals that already have pets in their home, but struggle to afford pet food.
- FAP is for individuals age 60 or older, living independently in Knoxville/Knox County, with an annual income less than 150% of the federal poverty level.

- FAP delivers about 3,800 lbs. of pet food each month to seniors all over Knoxville/Knox County.
- When unrestricted funds are available, FAP is able to assist with veterinary services and grooming services as well as some pet supplies for FAP participants.
