Designed in 2000 for a smaller student population, League’s outdoor area no longer meets the diverse needs of our growing school. In addition, decades of harsh New England winters have made maintaining the equipment increasingly difficult and no longer safe for use by our students.
Building an appropriate outdoor space that is accessible, exciting, and engaging for all of our students is estimated to cost $140,000. Construction has been scheduled in phases to minimize disruption to our students’ schedules.
The project has been scheduled in phases to be completed as funding has been secured. League looks for your support in funding the second phase of the project: purchaising the new and appropriate outdoor equipment to help our students continue to learn and grow.
Outdoor spaces provide countless benefits to our students. Physical activity, opportunities for social play, and time spent outdoors working on new skills will greatly benefit the children in our program and are crucial to their success.
Swings, like the one shown here, are versatile and can be used by both sensory seeking and sensory avoiding children. Increased attention, improved coordination, and muscle strength are just some of the benefits these swings will provide our students. With new and appropriate equipment in this space, we can build on many of the social, physical and emotional goals our students work tirelessly towards each day.
