Why Charles Walks

More than 16 thousand people are living with HIV in Dallas

Every donor counts!

Dallas County has the 2nd highest rate of HIV infection in Texas. Many people believe HIV/AIDS is no longer a major healthcare issue because of preventitive medications like PrEP and treatment options that allow people infected with HIV to live long lives. Besides it's just a gay white man's disease, right?

NO

In Dallas County, black men are twice as likely to be HIV positive as white men, and black women are TWELVE times more likely than white women. 46.6% of new infections are African-Americans, 29.0% come from the Hispanic/Latino community, whereas only 20.0% are white (non-Hispanic). So, HIV/AIDS is no longer just a white man's disease.

According to the latest statistics almost 200 people with HIV die every year in Dallas County because medications are not the answer. New drug therapies only help

1) if you know you are HIV+, and

2) if you have access to the drugs.

Since more infections occur in low income communities, a lower percentage of HIV+ people can get treatments. And in both the African-American and Hispanic communities, cultural stigma prevents many people from getting tested or treated.

Prism Health North Texas raises the most private funds in Dallas County to educate and treat people with HIV/AIDS. That's why I need your help to support LifeWalk.

Someone you know is HIV+ and they don't know it. Someone else is HIV+ and is not being treated.

Help them today. Please give generously.

Thank you.
