Literacy NJ helps change lives!

The quote above is from a current LNJ Monmouth basic literacy student who credits LNJ with changing his life.  Brian is just one of 120 students currently in our Monmouth program wokring with one of our 42 tutors.

LNJ helps recent immigrants and basic literacy students increase their English speaking, reading and writing skills so that they can improve their lives.  Students are able to get better jobs, get their driver’s license, obtain their high school diplomas, pass their citizenship tests or just improve their ability to read documents and street signs.

Here are a few of LNJ Monmouth’s accomplishments in 2023:

• Started a new in-person class at Middletown Library for ten ESL advanced beginner students.  This is the first large, in-person class re-started since the height of the pandemic

• Worked with IRISE (a refugee resettlement agency) to start a class for 6 recent refugees from Ukraine. Most of the students now have jobs and got their driver’s licenses.

• Added 4 new basic literacy students to the program.
