Right now, I am tutoring 10 people in-person at a local library. My students come from, Japan, Venezuela, Colombia, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Algeria, Afghanistan, Haiti and Ukraine. Their choices of religion (Muslim, Buddhism, Christian and more), food (injera, tamales, borscht, etc.), and social customs all vary wildly.

My students came to the U.S. for political, economic and cultural reasons. .

What has happened in this class is amazing to me - over the past six months, they have all become friends. They talk to each other in English, which is the only language they have in common! They help each other to understand the classwork. They share snacks and even carpool at times to get to class.

I said this to them and I say this to you: If the world were filled with people like our students, it would be a much, much better place.
