I’m thrilled to be participating in Literacy NJ's 3 Day Challenge, a fundraiser to help us support our students! I’m passionate about this organization and need your help! Every donation, big or small, helps me reach my fundraising goal and directly impacts this important cause.

As an avid reader growing up, I've always understood how literacy opens doors to new worlds and opportunities. This understanding has made my work at Literacy NJ especially meaningful to me. I started with Literacy NJ this past August, and since then in Union County, we've helped nearly 300 ESL students, almost 100 GED students, and work with almost 100 tutors. Speaking with individuals in each role is always a lovely experience and the one on one interactions are my favorite part of my job.

One of my highlights for me has been teaching ESL at Summit High School, which feels remarkably full circle after attending school there as a student. My group of students help and encourage each other constantly, making my job easier yet more rewarding. This class has given me the privilege of getting to know and help a piece of the Summit community that I was not very familiar with, and I genuinely look forward to every class. Watching my students’ progress and confidence grow with each session reminds me why literacy education is so vital. 

Recently, I've had the pleasure to expand my focus to work more with GED students as well. I currently work with a GED class of about 25 students, guiding them through online resources and serving as an extra resource for their questions. I also speak with all of our GED students about the official GED test and help them schedule the tests. It is profoundly joyous when a student reports back that they passed their test, and it is very rewarding to help students reach this milestone.
