On September 20, 2010 we were incredibly blessed by Mayah's birth. She was (and is!) adorable and so very alert. She was a good eater, sleeper and not only did she meet every milestone in her first year...she even met them early! At approximately 14 months of age, Mayah started to regress in some areas (especially in speech and communication). At the age of 2 1/2 Mayah was placed in early intervention and received speech and OT services. We fought very hard to get her the services she needed, but also got on a waiting list to see a developmental pediatrician. In March of 2015 she finally received her diagnosis of Autism. While this was no suprise to us, it still took time to process. This has been the most the humbling experience. I read once, "It takes a village to raise a child, but it takes a child with Autism to raise the consciousness of the village".  This could not be more true. She is a strong child who perseveres through her many obstacles. She NEVER gives up. We are so grateful to have her in our lives.

On June 5, 2016 we, including Mayah, will be doing a mile superhero walk for Autism Awareness and to support Live, Learn and Play non-profit organization in our area. This is a program where they hold events for children like to Mayah so that they have the opportunity to participate in things we often take for granted like games, movies and other events with children who also have Autism. This will be Mayah's first event. We are so proud of her many accomplishments!
