Reading has been my favorite pastime since I was a child.  It is hard for me to imagine life without it.  I became a tutor at Literacy NJ Monmouth to help others master the pleasure and utility of reading. 

For over a year, I’ve been lucky to work with an amazing basic literacy student.  He has progressed from barely reading the simplest texts to being able to work his way through newspaper articles.  We’ve never met in person because of the pandemic, but Literacy NJ has made our work possible by adding Zoom to our toolbox and by helping us adapt in-person training techniques to remote learning.   Throughout the year, Literacy NJ has provided additional training for tutors via on-line conferences and special topic sessions. 

Literacy NJ provides these literacy instruction services at no cost to residents of NJ.  Our program helps ESL and basic literacy students improve their English reading, writing, and speaking skills so that they can change their lives for the better.
