Join Literacy New Jersey’s 5 Day Literacy Challenge. 

Literacy New Jersey changes the lives of thousands of people in New Jersey through its English as a Second Language, High School Equivalency (HSE), Basic Literacy and Citizenship classes.

I first joined Literacy NJ as a volunteer math tutor right during the pandemic. I am an immigrant from Colombia and when I came here more than 20 years ago I spoke very little English. I understand how scary and difficult life can be for our students.

I have been the HSE Coordinator for the Union County Program since right before the beginning of the Fall term. I have an amazing team of tutors: kind and patient with their students, very well prepared, but above all very flexible during this transition period. We have both in-person and online classes.  

I am also the Coordinator of the Computer Skills program. I am grateful to have amazing tutors who help students get certificates that improve their employability. Classes are currently remote but we are working on providing in-person classes and maybe purchasing equiment for students who do not have a computer at home.
