Henry
December 2025
Henry is a four-year-old gentle giant who’s been through a lot and was still just looking for someone to snuggle. He came to Texas Humane Heroes just before Christmas anxious and in rough shape, but thanks to attentive medical care and lots of TLC from our staff and volunteers, Henry began to heal—inside and out. With patience, love, and consistency, he learned that people could be kind, and he was finally ready for the happy ending he deserved.
Come see Henry at our adoption center!
Baby
Baby was found trapped beneath a car, unable to move her back or hind legs. The trauma had caused paralysis and incontinence, and multiple veterinarians warned us that her nerve damage was likely permanent. Euthanasia was recommended.
But standing in front of Baby, we knew we couldn’t give up without trying.
With specialized care and round-the-clock support, Baby fought through the odds. And four weeks later, she did the impossible—she stood up and began walking. Baby’s recovery is why we believe every life deserves a chance, even when the outcome feels uncertain.
Wobble McAccord
December 2025
Wobbles is a sweet little girl born with a limp, likely caused by cerebral hydrocephalus. Despite her challenges, she’s full of curiosity, playfulness, and kitten energy. With supportive care, love, and patience, Wobbles is learning to navigate the world with confidence. Though she’s not quite ready for adoption yet, she’s hoping for a forever home that will celebrate her unique spirit and cheer her on every step of the way.
Sandy from Sandy Creek: From Flooded Streets to Safety
December 2,2025
Last week, there was an urgent request for help for Sandy, a dog who has been living as a stray since her home was washed away in the July 4th floods. Sandy, along with other neighborhood dogs, had been cared for by the local community. A family had been feeding her and watching closely as she grew very pregnant. When it became clear she needed immediate help, the brought her to Texas Humane Heroes.
It was clear Sandy could go into labor any day, but nobody expected it to start in the parking lot. When she arrived, she had already delivered one puppy, and a second was on the way. The team quickly transported her into the clinic to keep her safe and comfortable during labor. Through the night, the veterinary team monitored her as she gave birth to eight healthy puppies. Sandy and her babies are now safe, warm, and thriving in our care—a true miracle born right from the parking lot.
Updates:
Sandy and her puppies are doing well! At about 4 weeks old, all the puppies have their eyes open and are making sweet puppy sounds. Sandy is a great momma and is very protective of her babies.
Turkey’s Turnaround

Just over two months old, Turkey was left in terrible condition. The only survivor of his litter, he was malnourished, neglected, and frankly left to die. Since coming to Texas Humane Heroes, he’s steadily gaining strength and showing resilience every day. Turkey’s journey is a reminder of the lifesaving difference your support can make.
Updates:
Turkey is growing into a very playful and happy puppy. He's now available for adoption. Come visit him today!
Jax’s Second Chance
December 2025
Jax, a 6-year-old dog, came to Texas Humane Heroes after being mauled by another dog. Unfortunately, his owners did not provide the care he needed, so he ended up in Texas Humane Heroes care. While recovering from his injuries, our veterinary team also discovered an unrelated issue with his eye, which requires an enucleation.
Now, Jax is healing, receiving the care he deserves, and preparing for his next chapter with a loving family who will give him the attention and support he’s always needed.
Updates:
Jax is healing nicely and is ready for adoption! Come visit him today.
Wallie’s Story
Wallie is a brave 6-month-old pup who came to us after being hit by a car. X-rays revealed that his femoral head had completely separated from his femur, leaving him in urgent need of specialized care. Thanks to our incredible friends at Firehouse Animal Health Center, Wallie received the treatment he needed, including a lifesaving amputation to ensure he could live pain-free. He’s now recovering comfortably in a loving foster home, getting stronger every day and showing everyone just how resilient young pups can be.
Update:
Wallie has been adopted!
Dozens of Cats and Dogs Rescued From Unsafe Conditions in Comanche County
November 17, 2025
A resident in a rural Texas county has been overwhelmed by dozens of cats and dogs repeatedly dumped near her property. These animals have been living in unsafe, unhealthy conditions, and the home has now become a biohazard.
With no assistance available, both the animals and the woman trying to help them have been left with nowhere to turn.
This morning at 7 a.m., the Texas Humane Heroes rescue team deployed to remove as many animals as possible to our Leander shelter. Trusted partners are stepping in to assist with the remaining animals, ensuring no one is left behind.

Updates
TXHH was able to bring back all 31 cats and 5 dogs on the property.
Once evaluated by the medical team, several of the cats were determined to have cauliflower ear—a condition where past untreated ear mites caused their ear flaps to thicken and crumple.
It's also been determined that one of the dogs, Gida, is severly emaciated and clearly has traums from before the property owner started caring for her.
Candy's Comback
Candy came to us unable to walk, likely due to a compressed disk from labor. She arrived with her puppies, which made treatment more complicated, but our team provided pain medication, muscle relaxers, and strict cage rest to help her heal. Through careful care and her own resilience, Candy regained full use of her legs. She is now healthy, walking again, and in the process of weaning her thriving puppies.
Flash on the Mend: One Year Old, One Big Battle
Flash is a brave one-year-old boy who came to us after being hit by a car. He suffered a broken leg, and our medical team is treating him with a splint in hopes that rest and time will allow the bone to heal fully. We’re optimistic that Flash can make a complete recovery in the coming weeks. If the splint doesn’t provide enough healing, Flash may require an amputation—but for now, he’s in good spirits and receiving all the care he needs as we give him every chance to keep his limb.
Loki’s Story: From Tree Fall to a Loving New Beginning
Loki was an adored indoor/outdoor cat who lived a full and happy life with his family—until a fall from a tree left him unable to use one of his limbs. His family brought him to our low-cost clinic, where our medical team determined he had suffered a concussion and likely sustained nerve damage to his leg, though no bones were broken. Loki was sent home on strict cage rest and returned a week later. While his concussion had improved, his leg still hadn’t regained function. He was prescribed an additional four weeks of rest in hopes that his nerves might recover.
But when Loki came back for his follow-up, the news was difficult: his leg still had no movement, and the nerve damage was permanent. Amputation was his best chance at a pain-free life. Loki’s family, wanting the very best for him, made the heartbreaking decision to surrender him into our care. During his cage rest, it had become clear that returning home wouldn’t make him happy—he and the family dog were no longer getting along, and he grew distressed watching the other cats enjoy the outdoors while he could not. Although we don’t typically accept public surrenders, we welcomed Loki because he was already under our medical treatment and needed a safe path forward.
Just one week after his amputation, Loki recovered beautifully and was ready for a new start. He quickly found a loving, dog-free home committed to keeping him safely indoors. Today, Loki is thriving—three legs, whole heart, and a bright future ahead.
Update:
Loki was adopted on 11/12/2025!
A Mother’s Strength: Muffin’s Road From Trauma to Triumph
Muffin arrived at our shelter after a suspected hit-by-car incident, bravely caring for her three tiny puppies—just three weeks old—despite her injuries. The clinic team quickly determined she would need a leg amputation, but because she was still nursing, her treatment plan required extra care to ensure no medications passed into her milk. To keep everyone safe, Muffin was separated from her pups for a few days to recover while the puppies were bottle-fed by a foster volunteer. Once she was off anitbiotics, we reintroduced her to her little ones, hoping she would resume nursing—and she did, without hesitation. Today, Muffin and her puppies are thriving in foster care, where the pups are beginning the weaning process and learning to explore the world on their own.
Update:
Muffin was adopted on 12/7/2025!
Duchess
Duchess suffers from severe flea dermatitis — a painful condition caused by untreated flea infestations. Her skin is inflamed and irritated, and she requires ongoing medical care, medicated baths, and specialized treatments to finally feel relief.
Biscuits
Biscuits fell from a moving car and was left injured on the road. His face is swollen, and he is struggling to eat due to his injuries. He’s now safe but needs urgent medical treatment to heal and regain his strength.
Swirly
Swirly is a sweet cat found stray with a severe abscess that began with an infected tooth and has spread across the bridge of her nose. The abscess is at risk of rupturing, causing extreme pain and serious infection. She needs immediate veterinary care to drain the infection and begin her road to recovery.
Update
10/21 Swirly received an advanced dental with a tooth root abcess removal.
10/29: Swirly is recovering. She requires routine breathing treatments as she heals. But she is available for adoption with a medical waiver.
11/09: Swirly has been placed in foster care to help her continue to hear.
It is with great sadness that we share Swirly passsed away on 11/17. We treated her for over a month, but ultimately she succumed to her illness for which we were treating.
Pumpkin
Pumpkin is a tiny survivor. She and her littermates were cruelly tossed out on the road. Sadly, three of her siblings did not survive. Pumpkin and her brother were the only ones left alive. Her brother was adopted by the rescuer, but Pumpkin had a large, painful laceration on her back that required urgent veterinary care — care the rescuer couldn’t provide. She was brought to Texas Humane Heroes so she could receive the treatment she desperately needed.
Update
Pumpkin has been adopted!
Carlotta’s Bright Future Starts Here
At just 10 months old, Carlotta has already shown incredible resilience. She was found injured after suffering an unknown trauma, resulting in a hyphema—a pooling of blood in her eye—along with visible drainage, swelling, and a small laceration. Her eye remains closed and painful, and after careful evaluation, our veterinary team has determined that removal is the best course of action to ensure her comfort and long-term health.
Despite her injury, Carlotta’s spirit is unshaken. She’s sweet, affectionate, and has no problem being gently handled. Her purrs and gentle nudges remind us that healing isn’t just physical—it’s emotional too.
We may never know what happened to Carlotta’s eye, but we do know this: she’s safe now, surrounded by care, and on her way to a brighter future.
If you’d like to give to help support Carlotta’s journey—and others like her who in need of special medical care—your donation can make all the difference. Every gift helps us provide medical treatment, comfort, and a second chance at life.
Stay tuned for updates as this brave girl recovers and begins her journey toward a loving forever home.
UPDATES:
Carlotta had her eye removed on 9/29. She is currently recovering at Texas Humane Heroes.

Dolly’s Story
Last week, Dolly was living on the streets as a stray when tragedy struck. A good Samaritan, Kelsey Shoemake, witnessed her being hit by a car and rushed her to Hill Country Animal Hospital.
Dolly’s injuries are severe. Her pelvis is shattered and requires a highly specialized surgery to place a plate in her hip. During her exam, they also found something even more heartbreaking—a pellet from a gunshot wound lodged deep inside her body from an unknown point in her past. She cannot walk and is on strict cage rest. Our staff are hand-feeding her, administering IV fluids since she cannot get up to drink, and helping her with a catheter and sling so she can safely relieve herself outside.
How You Can Help
Thanks to generous donors like you, Dr. Key with Mobile Veterinary Services is performing Dolly’s life-saving surgery. But her recovery will be long and costly, and she needs the community’s support now more than ever.
Dolly is counting on your gift today to provide her with the surgery, medical care, and daily support she needs to heal—and to ensure we’re always ready to say “yes” to the next animal with nowhere else to turn.
UPDATE
9/24 - Dolly’s surgery was a success! She is now resting comfortably in a foster home and receiving all the care she needs to heal.

10 Animals Rescued Today — More to Come
Texas Humane Heroes was contacted by a shelter partner with an urgent plea to help save many of the 65 animals living in severe neglect while the property owners stayed in tents. Many of the animals are malnourished, neglected, and in desperate need of care. The owners only relinquished custody after a court order.
Staff and volunteers sprang into action, working tirelessly to make space, set up kennels, and restock supplies in preparation to isolate each animal until medical workups can be completed. It’s all hands on deck to get these neglected animals the care they need — and it’s a tremendous strain on resources.
Thanks to the support of our community, we were able to take in 10 of these animals. They are safe now — and with your help connecting dogs with loving homes over the weekend, we can rescue even more next week.
Update: 8/22 - After evaluating the 10 dogs that arrived Friday morning, staff felt compelled to rescue as many as possible. The team immediately left and drove a three-hour round trip to bring back 69 more dogs. In total, 17 of the 65 animals have now been rescued — but many more still need help.
9/12 - Many of the animals went to foster after arriving to Texas Humane Heroes and receiving medical evaluation. Some have been adopted and some are available for adoption at Texas Humane Heroes.
A few of the dogs on property got a photoshoot! Thank you Fetching Fido Fhotography for photgraphing our dogs to help them get adopted.
Abbey’s Rare Condition Needs Your Help
Abbey, a playful 10-week-old puppy, was born without an anus — a rare condition that can lead to life-threatening complications. Waste passes through her vulva, and without complex reconstructive surgery, she may not survive. Despite everything, Abbey is full of life and sweetness, showing the heart of a fighter.
Abbey’s devoted brother, Abel, stays by her side, offering comfort as she faces this challenge. Our veterinary team is ready to perform the surgery she needs — but we need your help to make it possible.
Your gift today can save Abbey’s life and give her the chance to grow up healthy and happy.
UPDATE: Abbey was scheduled for surgery on 8/21. However, she did not weight enough to be safely put under anesthesia. We are placing her in foster care where she will receive weight checks. When she gains enought to safely undergo anethesia, we will perform the surgery.
Abbey has met her goal weight and will be getting reconstructive surgery on 8/28.
8/28 - Abbey received her new anus. She's still on a road to recovery. Our doctor will be fostering her through the weekend to ensure her a safe post surgery healing process.
9/4 - Abbey has been eating and drinking normally and is able to pass bowel movements without issue. She did try to chew on her surgical site, so she’s sporting a cone for now, but otherwise she’s doing great!
10/14 - Abbey is continuing to heal and in foster with our veterinary staff.
From Trauma to Treatment: Meet Travis & Taylor
Travis and Taylor arrived in rough shape, each carrying the scars of a difficult past. Both suffered severe hair loss, and their ears were docked extremely short — a procedure most often performed on dogs intended for fighting. These injuries make them prone to chronic ear infections and long-term health challenges.
Travis also had a painful growth on his foot, which our veterinary team successfully removed. Despite their difficult beginnings, both dogs are resilient, affectionate, and ready to experience the love and safety every dog deserves.
Every surgery, treatment, and bit of care is made possible by donors like you — giving Travis and Taylor a real chance at healing and a happy life.
UPDATE: Travis keeps chewing his wound and his protective cones. But we are continuing to monitor his surgery site and treating to prevent infection. Both Travis and Taylor's skin are continuing to heal.
9/12 - Travis' surgery sight has healed. Taylor has been receiving treatment for chronic ear infections and eye infections.
Taylor and Travis were both adopted to loving families!
Meet Dottie — A Senior Dog Left Behind
Dottie’s world turned upside down when her owner passed away. Her family came to collect belongings from the home—but left Dottie behind. Days later, the landlord found her alone, blind, deaf, covered in fleas, and with nails so overgrown she could barely walk.
After vet evaluation, we learned she’ll need one of her eyes removed because it’s at risk of rupturing. She may also have a painful ear infection, along with other urgent medical needs.
Despite everything, Dottie is gentle and sweet—soaking up every bit of kindness she’s given. With your help, she can receive the surgery, treatment, and loving care she needs to heal and find her next chapter.
Please give today to help Dottie get her second chance.

It’s Rory Elouise—If You Please!
At just five months old, Rory Elouise has already overcome incredible odds. Not long after arriving at Texas Humane Heroes, she suffered a rare reaction to a vaccine that left her unable to walk.
Thanks to months of care from our low-cost vet clinic, Rory slowly regained her strength. Today, she’s back on her paws—running, playing, and snuggling anyone who’ll let her.
Her journey is a powerful reminder of the difference compassion makes.

Antonia - A Blind Cat with a Boundless Heart
Nine-month-old Antonia is adjusting to life as a blind cat, but her sweet spirit hasn’t changed a bit.
She came to Texas Humane Heroes after giving birth to two kittens, already suffering from an eye infection. The strain of pregnancy and labor caused it to worsen and spread—leaving her in pain. For her comfort and quality of life, both eyes had to be removed.
Despite it all, Antonia has remained gentle, loving, and resilient. Her kittens have found homes—now it’s her turn. She’s looking for a calm, patient home where she can continue to blossom.
UPDATE: Antonia was adopted the same day we shared her story!
Six Puppies in Crisis. Help Heal Their Wounds.
Texas Humane Heroes took in six puppies—four boys and two girls—each suffering from devastating injuries.
The exact cause of their wounds is still unclear, but the skin on their backs had been peeled away, leaving gaping, open wounds, and in immense pain. Our team is heartbroken by their conditions and the unknown cause.
We immediately sprang into action—starting them on antibiotics and pain management. Their wounds are now being carefully cleaned and properly bandaged, but their road to recovery will be long and painful.
These babies are hurting. They need your help to heal.
Will you donate now to support their recovery and give them the chance at a pain-free, loving future?
UPDATE:
6/25/25 - The puppies have been on medication for 48 hours and are really starting to show their personailities. They each got hydrotherapy and honey wrap treatments today. As long as we don't see any complications, they should be mostly healed in about two weeks.
7/16/25 - The puppies are doing really well! Their wounds are healed and we're expecting some if not all of their hair to grow back.
7/26/25 - The puppies are available for adoption! And three have gone to loving homes already.
Four Emergency Rescues Within One Week.
Cayenne is a tiny 2-month-old puppy with a huge spirit. She came to us from Bell County with a broken leg that couldn’t be saved. Thanks to supporters like you, she received a life-saving amputation at our clinic and is already trying to play like one of the big dogs.
Jimothy, a two-year-old from Killeen, also needed a leg removed. At first, we hoped to avoid surgery — but after evaluation, amputation was clearly the best option. He’s now healing and adjusting with incredible resilience.
Mr. Chomp Chomperson came to us after being attacked by another animal. He suffered a severe open wound along with several smaller injuries and is currently under rabies watch. His care is ongoing, but he's improving every day.
Cannoli had to have an eye removed due to serious damage. This gentle dog is already adapting to life with one eye — and learning to trust again.
UPDATE: These dogs have all been adopted! Thank you for your support.
Skipper
Among the many animals your support helps save is Skipper, who was surrendered to a local shelter partner with a broken leg. Thanks to your support, we were able to provide her with the care she needs. Now, despite the challenge of navigating the world on three legs, Skipper's spirit shines brightly – a true testament to the resilience you help us nurture in each animal rescued.
Thanks to your support, Skipper has been adopted into a loving home!
Ruthie
Ruthie came to us from Southeast Houston. She is a 20lb dog suspected to have been hit by a car. As you can see in the picture, dedicated TXHH staff are carrying Ruthie outside to help her relieve herself, as she is on strict cage rest and requires major surgery.
Update:
After several attempts to repair Ruthie's leg, we were able to rehabilitate her in a way that would prevent amputation. Ruthie has come off cage rest and is now available for adoption!
8/3 - Ruthie was adopted!
Dumped Cats
The story of these cats is heartbreaking. March 31st we found two large crates left outside the Cat House. Inside were five female cats, likely Lynx Point Tabby American Curls, covered in urine and feces, their paws waterlogged from standing in their own waste. These cats, that we think were used for breeding, were clearly discarded like trash.
They are sweet but terrified and show signs of severe neglect and some signs of immediate medical attention needed.
Updates
4/07/25 - All five kitties have adjusted well since being in our care. They have really come out of their shell and aren't showing nearly as many signs of fear. We'll be putting them in of our socialization rooms and making them available for adoption this week!
4/09/25 - Bear, one of the cats was adopted today! The four others are in Catio 2 waiting for their forever home.
4/28/25 - The last of the five, Sasquatch, was adopted today!
Morticia and Her Kittens
Kitten season is officially here, and was marked with our first on-site birth! Morticia gave birth to a small litter of two kittens, named Pugsley and Wednesday. While Morticia does suffer from the Calicivirus, she's been an amazing mother to these two.
Many shelters aren't equipped to handle the delicacy that comes with pregnant and nursing animals. Morticia was pulled from a euthenasia list out of the Dallas area. It's because of HEROES like you that we are able to come to the rescue for this little family, who will all be up for adoption in the coming weeks.
With your continued support, we will be able to continue helping more pets at this critical stage in life for years to come.
UPDATE: Morticia and her kittens have all been adopted!
Jinx and Calypso's Story
Jinx and Calypso were rescued as part of a hoarding situation in Bell county, where they lived with 100 other cats, and were badly emaciated and covered in mats. Because of your support, we were able to help them. Once they came into our care, we were able to shave most of the mats. They've also warmed up a great deal and are much more sociable than they were at first. Of course, they'll still need a patient family that'll give them the space they need to thrive.
Updates
4/04/2025 - Calypso and Jinx have come so far since being with us! They started playing in their condo today, so we moved them to a catio to socialize with new friends.
04/05/2025 - Calypso was adopted today! Jinx is still available. Come visit him in Catio 2.
04/12/2025 - Jinx was adopted today!
Lucien's Story
This tiny three-month-old boy was initially found on the streets as a stray, by himself, and was in pretty bad shape, particularly in his left eye. His eye was totally out of place. When he came into our care, we were able to treat him!
Only having one eye hasn't slowed this rambunctious little pirate down. He loves to play, and gets rather insistent about it. Once he's worn himself out, he's pretty content to snuggle up and purr - and he gets pretty insistent about that, too!
Shortly after getting fixed up, Lucien found his forever family on February 12th.
Donnie
Donnie came to us in January, a scared dog with a severely injured neck. Under his matted fur, we discovered the signs of a brutal past: numerous old, healed puncture wounds, suggesting he'd likely been used as a bait dog.
He was in a lot of pain and wouldn't eat. He needed surgery and a cocktail of medications to combat infection and pain. Weeks were spent gently cleaning his wounds, changing bandages, and offering quiet comfort. We gently cleaned his wounds and helped him heal. Slowly, he began to trust and play.
On February 23rd, Donnie, a survivor, found his forever home, leaving his painful past behind.
Pierre's Story
Pierre is a medical needs dog currently being cared for by Texas Humane Heroes.
Pierre is a French Bulldog who recently came into our care with an end-stage ear canal infection and brachycephalic obstructive airway disease.
End-stage ear canal infection means that the canal has been through so much inflamation and infection that it is closed shut. These types of isses can cause pain, additional infection, and hearing loss. We can help Pierre by giving him a surgical procedure called total ear canal ablation (TECA). This would eliminate pain associated with his diagnosis and prevent him from needing chronic treatment to prevent future ear infections.
Brachycephalic obstructive airway disease is common in brachycephalic (short-nosed) dogs. This condition varies in severity and generally causes issues with breathing. In severe cases, as the animal ages they may experience a sudden respiratory crises that could lead to death.
Pierre's case is severe, but fortunately, we can give him treatment that he desperately needs. Once he's recovered, there's no reason he won't be able to live a long and fulfilling life. With your help, we can not only save his life, but help him find his forever family!
Please note, although we do not have DNA confirmation, we have been told Pierre is a Frenchie, and he certainly appears to be one.
To provide Pierre's treatment, we need your help. Donate at the link above or you can text Pierre to 50155.
Updates on Pierre
1/31/25 - Thanks to your support, we've raised enough to cover the cost of Pierre's Surgery! He's schedule for surgery on February 17th. Stay tuned for another update coming soon.
2/18/35 - Pierre had his surgery yesterday! He spent the night at one of our staff's house and is healing nicely. We were able to perform his TECA and his ear will no longer be infected. There is a change he could be deaf in that ear, but he will no longer be in pain. We were also able to widen his nostrils to help him breath better.
3/09/25 - Pierre was adopted at the Santa Rita Ranch Farmer's Market!
