Mrs. Weather's Grant Wish --

The goal of this project is to implement the 14 specific teaching practices from "Building a Thinking Classroom." These practices focus on fostering student collaboration and promoting environments where students can actively display and explore their strategies.

Research suggests that children often learn more effectively when working on vertical, interactive surfaces—a method known as vertical learning. This approach promotes physical engagement, collaboration, and spatial awareness, making the learning experience more dynamic and hands-on. By interacting with vertical surfaces such as whiteboards or touchscreen displays, students can enhance their problem-solving skills and creativity, while also improving focus and retention. This method encourages active learning, as opposed to passive learning, helping students better engage with the material.

Studies have shown significant improvement in state test scores, such as NWEA assessments, which correlate with the STAAR exams. As I teach every monolingual 5th grader at Caldwell, the implementation of this project will have a lasting impact on students year after year. The opportunity to purchase these whiteboards will greatly benefit my students, providing them with tools that enhance their learning experience and long-term academic success.
