TOGETHER TOWARDS A CURE
For the first time in 25 years, the Detroit area is part of the national fundraising effort for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF).
Unfortunately, there remains no cure for this global, irreversible and progressive disease.
With a prominent increase noted since the pandemic, an association with COVID-19 is being investigated.
Funding is to accelerate research for a cure and unequaled support and information for patients, caregivers, health care providers and family members. All too often it is the hard working extended family who provide 24-hour care.
Visibility and awareness are vital in obtaining resources for any disease. The most common fibrosis, Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) is relatively unknown to the public as well as some health care professionals, and claims the lives of a fast growing 40,000 every year which is comparable to pneumonia, influenza or second hand smoke. Awareness, & proper diagnosis is expected to increase these numbers.
