My Story

When I joined the New York City Gay Men's Chorus, I didn't just get a chance to sing--I found my voice.  I often felt uncomfortable in many spaces growing up because they were not LGBTQ-friendly spaces.  I remained silent when I could have spoke up because I wanted to blend in.  I can remember my voice quivering and my hands shaking when I would sing in high school or college out of fear of judgment.

When I first joined the chorus, I was a bit overwhelmed by the confidence of so many impressive performers.  No matter the ability, background, and training of our singers, everyone embraced me and my introversion with open arms.  It took two years, but I finally had the confidence to solo again with the song "Mad World." It's the first time in my life that I was able to stand completely still and sing a solo and really be attached to the music.  My friends did that. The chorus did that.

When I left NYC this past year to work overseas I left a part of me with the chorus and knew that I needed it back. I have an ambitious goal to be the top tenor 2 by fundraising $2000 (and more if we get there).  Please help me reach my goal.  More information about the chorus can be found below.

Welcome to the NYCGMC 2018 Membership Fundraising Drive!  The New York City Gay Men's Chorus is a world-class, world-renowned institution and a pioneering voice for the LGBTQ community.  Our mission--to build bridges through song--is carried out via our annual concert series, community outreach, and our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equality.  As the Chorus begins its 40th season, we need your help to continue bringing the joy of our music and the passion of our community outreach to NYC and beyond!

Our 2018/19 season is well underway with rehearsals for our beautiful holiday show, Comfort and Joy (December 14-16, 2018), and plans for Big Gay Sing XI: Bootylicious in March 2019.  We will cap off our season next June by commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising with a joint concert with Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles at Carnegie Hall, during World Pride 2019 in NYC. For more information about us, and to purchase tickets to our upcoming concert season, please visit www.nycgmc.org.
