Welcome to the NYCGMC 2018 Membership Fundraising Drive!
New York City Gay Men’s Chorus (NYCGMC) is a pioneering voice for LGBTQ communities in NYC, the US and internationally; through music, we are fearless champions for LGBTQ rights and social justice. Founded in 1979, NYCGMC is comprised of more than 275 talented singers of various ages, backgrounds, and experiences, across a spectrum of gender identity and sexual orientation. We present 3 mainstage shows and over 40 outreach activities across all five boroughs and beyond annually. Last year’s outreach performances included appearances at LGBTQ teen homeless shelters, at SAGE for LGBTQ elders, and at corporate and public pride celebrations. In 2017-18, NYCGMC performed at the Apollo Theater, in public parks, at Madison Square Garden and Yankee Stadium, at gala fundraisers for the Research Foundation to Cure AIDS, Hope Lodge, and the Ackerman Institute, and at the Brooklyn Museum, the Gilbert Baker Rally, and the NYC Council Pride Celebration, among many others. Television appearances including Good Morning America, The Tonight Show, and Last Week Tonight have provided a national platform for our mission. Through technical assistance and joint concerts, we support development of LGBTQ choruses in the US and internationally. Our school program reaches over 2,000 NYC public middle-school students, and we are currently expanding the program to new schools, including high schools.
In addition, NYCGMC is a pioneer of choral music, commissioning over 75 new works during its history, and has appeared on television, in films, and on Broadway. New works have included collaborations with and commissions from over 50 composers, including Leonard Bernstein, Ann Hampton Callaway, Joseph Jennings, Stephen Sondheim, James Adler, David Hurd, Conrad Susa, and many more. Performances across the United States have included appearances in more than a dozen states, and internationally in London, Dublin, Mexico City, Amsterdam, Koln, Berlin, Munich, Barcelona, Montreal, Paris, and throughout the Caribbean.
Our 2018-19 season is well underway with rehearsals for our beautiful holiday show, Comfort and Joy (December 14-16, 2018), and plans for Big Gay Sing Bootylicious in March 2019. We cap off our season in June by commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising with a joint concert with Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles at Carnegie Hall, during World Pride 2019 in NYC. For more information about us, and to purchase tickets to our upcoming concert season, please visit www.nycgmc.org.
As a non-profit organization, we rely on the generosity of friends like you to support this important work and to keep our song alive!
