NYCGMC 2022 Membership Fundraising Drive
Welcome to the NYCGMC 2022 Membership Fundraising Drive!
WE SING FOR YOU!
Joining NYCGMC is the most important meaningful thing that I have done in my life in a decade. Since joining in January of 2020 I have realized that NYCGMC is my home, my community, my safe, meaningful and fun place full of comraderie and SONG! It is hard to describe how important this is to me, having grown up a gay boy in the '70's and '80's surviving bullying, isolation, depression, suicidal thoughts, and then the losses from the AIDS epidemic. At NYCGMC I am home. A safe, fun, meaningful community full of wonderful diversity of all kinds.
The New York City Gay Men’s Chorus is an internationally renowned performing arts institution and a pioneering voice for the LGBTQ+ community. Through the power of song, NYCGMC challenges people’s perceptions of the LGBTQ+ community, combats fear and hatred, encourages compassion and human connection, and thrills audiences with inspiring performances. NYCGMC champions social justice and embraces the values of diversity, inclusion, equity, and intersectionality.
Founded in 1979, NYCGMC provided a community when LGBTQ+ people faced daunting challenges and devastating loss. The Chorus now confronts unprecedented social, political and economic challenges in a chaotic world where people are more vulnerable than ever.
Comprising over 300 talented singers of various ages, backgrounds, and experiences, across a spectrum of gender identity and sexual orientation, NYCGMC is especially excited to welcome our new Artistic Director Johnny Atorino who is rejoining us after several years away, having previously been our Assistant Director. Under his leadership we are preparing our Holiday Concert for you, our first mask optional concert since Covid numbers and severity have been dropping in the NYC area.
As a non-profit organization, NYCGMC relies on the generosity of donors to support this important work and to keep our singing alive. With the impact of COVID-19 creating particularly challenging circumstances for choral and performing groups, NYCGMC is in a particularly vulnerable financial situation having been shuttered from public performance activity until January 2022. We strive to continue to thrive and your support allows NYCGMC to amplify our mission and our voices at this important moment. Ticket prices cover only a portion of our budget, and we hope to return to performing in grand venues such as Carnegie Hall and at Lincoln Center which takes full coffers to accomplish. Thank you for your generosity! No gift is too small.
NYCGMC presents three mainstage shows and over forty outreach activities across all five boroughs and beyond annually. Previous years’ outreach performances have included appearances at LGBTQ teen homeless shelters, at SAGE (Services and Advocacy for GLBTQ Elders), and at corporate and public pride celebrations. NYCGMC has performed at Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, and Yankee Stadium; at gala fundraisers for the Swish Ally Fund and the Ackerman Institute; and at the Brooklyn Museum and the Global Citizen concert in Central Park, among many others. Television appearances including Good Morning America, The Tonight Show, and Last Week Tonight have provided a national platform for the mission. Through technical assistance and joint concerts, NYCGMC supports development of LGBTQ choruses in the U.S. and internationally. NYCGMC’s school outreach program serves over 2,000 NYC public middle and high school students.
With your continued giving we can show the world through song that we are all resilient, worthy, and all people deserve the love and support of their community. Thank you for being the foundation of our community. We sing for you.
