The New York City Gay Men’s Chorus is an internationally renowned performing arts institution in New York City and a pioneering voice for the LGBTQ+ community. Through the power of song, NYCGMC challenges people’s perceptions of the LGBTQ+ community, combats fear and hatred, encourages compassion and human connection, and thrills audiences with inspiring performances. NYCGMC champions social justice and embraces the values of diversity, inclusion, equity, and intersectionality. I am proud to have been a member since March 2006. There have been so many highlights throughout the years.
In 2014, the NYCGMC performed in London with the LGMC and in Dublin at the quadrennial festival of European LGBT+ chorus, "Various Voices". While we were in Dublin, we also gave a benefit performance (a "Big Gay Sing") at the downtown Bord Gáis Energy Theater, the Irish National organization that was coordinating the "yes" campaign for Ireland's Marriage Equality referendum, expected to be scheduled for 2015. We raised €35,000, the single biggest donation to the campaign. Ireland's referendum passed in Spring of 2015, on it's first attempt.
