Hi friend! If you're visiting this page, then you probably already know that choral singing has radically transformed my life. Not only does singing with others bring me tremendous personal joy, but it's also become my life's work to support the organizations that make organized choral singing possible.
Needless to say, the last couple years have been ROUGH for performing arts organizations. Organizations like the NYC Gay Men's Chorus have always relied on the generousity (time, passion, and money) of the communities they serve to continue bringing people together and lifting them up through music. Since the start of the COVID pandemic, arts organizations have never been more vital to our collective mental well-being, and yet due to public health restrictions and understandably cautious patrons, those same organizations have never been more in need of support.
NYCGMC is no exception. My chorus needs my help. My chorus needs your help. And in an increasingly isolated world, the work we do has never been more important.
A colleague of mine once commented that one of the most beautiful things about our chorus is that you can reliably assume that at every single performance, there's at least one person who desperately needed to be there. Some real examples I've heard about over the years:
- The mother of a singer who had never fully accepted her son's sexuality. After the concert, she told him that she felt like she was finally beginning to understand this part of him.
- A father whose son (not a singer) had recently come out, who felt like he knew nothing about how to support his son, but bought a ticket to our show hoping it would be a starting point in his own growth. It was.
- A young man feeling isolated and lonely having recently moved to NYC, blown away seeing 200+ folks like him on stage, who was inspired to audition - and got in!
There are many more stories for us to tell. And so many lives for us to touch.
Will you join me in supporting this organization I love so much and help us continue to make music?
