Midwest Eye Consultants Kokomo has been committed to the Kokomo community in many ways over the years. Finding unique ways to get involved has been a goal of our office. We have participated in various “Eye on the Community” events in the Kokomo area but wanted to try something different that had not been done before by any Midwest Eye Consultants office. Partnering with Leader Dogs for the Blind seemed like an obvious choice for our organization. The idea was proposed and we were given the blessing to move forward. We were all so excited to start this adventure! Not only would the end result provide a life changing experience for a blind individual, but having a leader dog in our office has been so much fun! Throughout our journey, our precious little Berkley has grown by leaps and bounds right before our eyes. She started out as a furry puff ball full of energy and now seven months later she has learned so much that she will soon be returning to the Leader Dog facility in Michigan for her final training before she is paired with her companion.
During her visits to the office, Berkley has developed quite a fan base. We have patients who come visit Berkley on her designated “training” days and to donate to our “Change Wars” jar. The staff get the opportunity to educate the patients on the Leader Dog mission. The children love Berkley and the feeling is definitely mutual. By supporting Leader Dogs, we have been able to raise awareness and funds for multiple programs the organization supports that assist visually impaired people.
The Leader Dog Mission : ….empowering people who are blind or visually impaired with lifelong skills for safe and independent daily travel.

Dr. James and the entire staff are honored to be involved in this outstanding program. This opportunity with Leader Dog has been very rewarding and what a great way to get the word out to others.
