On April 4, 2023, our daughter, Mila Balmori Agudelo, was born still. Silent and perfect. 

There are no words that can truly capture the heartbreak and devastation of losing her. It has been two years and it still stops me in my tracks. I still have bad days, more than I care to admit. Mila made us parents. She brought us pure joy, endless dreams, and a love deeper than we ever thought possible. While we have been forced to learn to live without her, her absence in our lives is something we feel every second of everyday. 

I remember holding her in the hospital, wishing time would stop just to get a little more. Feeling each second go by knowing that any minute they would come through the doors and take her from me. This is a feeling no parent should ever have to experience. The trauma and grief we carry everyday is a testament to our love for her as parents. A love so powerful, but with no place to go. 

Though our time with her was far too short, she will forever be a part of us—our family, our story, and our hearts.

This year, we are creating Team Miles for Mila to walk in the Star Legacy Foundation’s 5K, not only in honor of our daughter, but for the thousands of babies born still each year, and the families who carry the weight of their absence. One in four pregnancies ends in loss, yet too many parents walk this path in silence. We are walking to help break that silence.

This walk is another way we honor Mila. It’s a way to say: She was here. She mattered. She always will. It is our hope that by walking, sharing, and fundraising, we create more awareness, more compassion, and more support for other families like ours.
