Our MIST team is competing for the Humanitarians of the Year Award. Please donate to our team so we can get this money to Islamic Relief USA and support those in need.

Islamic Relief’s Dedication to Syria

Islamic Relief has been supporting the people of Syria since 2011, remaining on the ground as the years passed and the crisis deepened. One of the largest charities still operating in Syria, Islamic Relief is also active in several neighboring countries, where many Syrian refugees rely on our assistance.

The prolonged crisis has taken a terrible toll on the civilian population and the arrival of Covid-19 placed further strain on services already stretched to their limit. Economic collapse has robbed people of their livelihoods and seen the price of basic goods rise dramatically.

We are providing aid to help the people of Syria meet their basic needs and supporting them as they begin to rebuild their lives. We have supplied life-saving aid, including food and water, medical treatment and shelter to families. We have also supported communities and individuals to rebuild their lives through programmes focused on livelihoods, food security and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH). Education, child welfare, orphan support and empowering women have also been integral parts of our work in Syria.

Focus on Syria

More than 11 years of conflict in Syria has killed hundreds and thousands of people, including women and children. The standard of living has been set back by decades. Roughly 6.9 million people are displaced within Syria while 6.8 million have been forced out of their country – which when combined, amounts to more than half of the country’s population in distress.

More than 70% of Syrians live in poverty. Millions have lost their livelihoods and are unable to meet their basic needs including access to food, clean water, and health care. The children of Syria are of the most affected. Many don’t know life outside of war and will be forced to face the long-term effects of physical and mental trauma. As Muslims, it is incumbent upon us to help our brothers and sisters suffering across Syria.
