Living under occupation and perpetual violence, Palestinians have been deprived of nearly all fundamental human rights. Issues such as food insecurity, inadequate water quality, limited healthcare access, lack of educational opportunities, high unemployment rates, and restricted movement represent just a fraction of the numerous challenges confronting the Palestinian people daily. Amid displacement and relentless attacks, Gaza is witnessing the most severe hunger crisis globally, with thousands facing starvation and many families enduring days without food. Reports from Islamic Relief staff depict desperate scenes of children scavenging for scraps on the streets and malnourished infants facing illness and hunger. With over 1.7 million individuals—80% of the population—displaced, many have been forced to relocate multiple times in search of safety amidst ongoing bombardment. Over 30,000 Palestinians have died since October 7th and the funding for the United Nations relief has been suspended making these times harder than ever. 

Efforts like those of Islamic Relief have undoubtedly made a tangible impact on the lives of Palestinians enduring unimaginable adversity. However, these efforts alone are insufficient. With each passing moment of bombardment in Gaza, more lives are lost and futures are shattered. We must take decisive action to halt this cycle of suffering and prevent further devastation. While issues related to the delivery of humanitarian aid persist, IRUSA partners are continuing to work on the following interventions:

• Distribution of food parcels sourced by local farmers in Gaza to displaced families

• Provision of hygiene kits to people in shelters

• Provision of vital medical supplies to three hospitals including Hayfa Hospital, Al-Awda Hospital, and Al-Ahli Arab Hospital

• Access to mobile clinics for 23,400 people in shelters

• Immediate trauma response for 4,000-5,000 people 

• Winter aid including essential non-food items such as blankets, mattresses, and winter clothing
