Minds Matter Chicago (MMC) is an organization that levels the playing field for Chicago’s academically dedicated, low-income, high potential, college-bound teens by supporting them to and through college. 100% of our program graduates are accepted to a four-year college and 99% of our program graduates are enrolled in a four-year college, exceeding the Chicago Public Schools average of 43%. Higher education is a critical pathway toward greater social and economic equity – this program plays a key role helping countless students overcome barriers and reach their potential.

I have been involved with MMC for nearly two years and have seen the significant impact it has on students. The two students I have been mentoring are now high school juniors – over the past two years they have developed academically by improving their long-form writing ability and personally by exploring potential college majors and career paths to identify options that align with their core values and long-term goals. I am excited to see how they continue to grow over the next year and where their academic career takes them after high school.

Want to know more about Minds Matter Chicago? Each student (grades 10-12) in the Minds Matter program receives:

• one-on-one mentorship
• preparation for standardized testing
• a sequential curriculum that builds skills to successfully navigate the college application, selection, and financial aid process
• academic and personal development opportunities in the summer
• public speaking training, career choice support, and guidance in achieving student-set goals
• ongoing alumni support for our college students - to help stay on track and graduate college
