Maddox, our first son, should be turning 5 this May 7th but he passed away after a premature birth due to HELLP and preeclampsia. Since we don't get to have a birthday party for our sweet one, we invite family and friends to honor him in a variety of ways, including gifts to the Preeclamlsia Foundation.
Our Story
Our family has battled this disorder (and other related complications) three times now, suffering a devastating loss, heartbreak, and fear. With our first, I developed HELLP syndrome at 22 weeks - the early signs were missed for me. I was induced, Maddox was born, he lived 46 minutes, then passed away in our arms. Our second, Oscar, was born 3 weeks early and safely but I developed preeclampsia 5 days postpartum. Our third, Angus, was born 6 weeks premature due to preeclampsia and other complications.
I'm proof that with the right care, our babies can be delivered, but that time didn't come until after we had already lost our entire world. We pushed through two more times but it was day-to-day, it was terrifying, it was painful, and so we raise funds and awareness for a day when this doesn't have to be for Moms and Dads like us.
