Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ
We are currently serving on the Africa Mercy in Taomasina, Madagascar. My current technical role is the Ship's Security Officer. Savanna is currently serving as the primary care giver chaplain while Asher, Eden, and Harper are students in the Mercy Ships Academy. Our mission is to be disciple makers onboard and to live out the gospel by coming alongside men and women from all over the world. We are joined in this mission by other missionaries onboard as well as the local church here in Madagascar.
Please be praying for us as we work in ministry as a family. The work that the Lord has called us to seems daunting and it is only by the power of the Holy Spirit that we have any hope of furthering the Gospel. If you would like to know more about how to pray for us or what we are doing, please email me (benjamin.hovies@mercyships.org) or Savanna (savanna.hovies@mercyships.org). We would be happy to add you to our newsletter.

Arrival Granadilla, Spain
Arriving in Granadilla, Spain after a 9 month field service. This marks the beginning of a long refit on the Africa Mercy. Once the refit is complete in Durban, South Africa the entire family is scheduled to join.

The deck and and engine departments work to keep the ship operating so that the hospital on the ship can operate.
Best Crew
There is no other deck crew like the crew with Mercy Ships.
Worship
Cooperate worship is an integral part of the Mercy Ships community. People of all ages, speaking many languages, from many tribes come together to sing praises to our God and hear the preaching and teaching of His Word.
Boating
God brings people into our lives in ways we never expect.
Security Team
Ben's technical role on the ship is the Ship Security Officer. In this role he serves the ship security guards. As a team, they protect the ship, crew, and the patients of the Africa Mercy.
Team Work
We are grateful for the other missionaries who labor along side us on the ship and in the community of Toamasina.
Family Life Onboard
Life onboard a ship is like life anywhere else. With the exception of the occasional fire drill.
Ask the Kids
Do you ever wonder what crew are doing on the Africa Mercy? Our communications team asked our kids and this is what they said.
Starting the Work Day
On the Africa Mercy, we get to start the work day with signing, praying, and reading God's word. Corporate morning devotions are a part of our work day.
