Hi WELCOME to my US and international support page! So happy you stopped by :) below is a little bio section about how I began to volunteer with Mercy Ships and how my current journey as the HOPE Centre manager started!
_______________________________________________________________________________________
I first learned about Mercy Ships and the work they do when I was in junior high after reading a book series about a girl who went to volunteer on the Anastasis. Throughout high school and college year I dreamed about volunteering abroad. After completing nursing school, I experienced a solo trip to Europe, and had worked as a nurse for a year but was itching for more. I remember thinking “there has to be more to life than this”. One year later I boarded a plane that took me to the continent of Africa for the first time. I spent four months volunteering as a ward nurse with Mercy Ships in Benin, and I fell in love with the community aboard the Africa Mercy. As a young twenty-one-year-old I learned SO much about how great our God is and how amazing His love is for His children. As a nurse I gained a wealth of new knowledge that I have implemented working here in Canada.
Over the last several years I have had a desire to return to volunteering, however God had other plans for me within Canada. I have spent time developing relationships with friends, watching my siblings start their own families, dove into a role at church as a Sunday school teacher, spent time volunteering with local nonprofits in various roles, and have strengthened my nursing skills by taking an emergency room job in downtown Calgary. I have LOVED this life that God has blessed with in Canada. However there has always been this nudging on my heart to return to volunteering, particularly in a long term capacity.
Fast forward to the middle of March and I am saying yes to joining the Africa Mercy again. This time in a very different role and for a much longer commitment. I will taking a managerial position within the HOPE Centre team for the next two years. This is a HUGE leap of faith and an absolute whirlwind that will take me to the ship for June 9th. I could not do this without the support of people like you! I am SO excited to see how God is going to use me in this new role and BEYOND grateful to get the opportunity to return to a place that captured my heart so many years ago.
“for from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen” Romans 11:36
