This walk means the world to us because it represents so much more than just raising funds—it’s about fighting for the future of kids like Charlie. Charlie was born with a complex congenital heart defect, including double outlet right ventricle with d-transposition of the great arteries, a hypoplastic left ventricle and several other complications. His journey hasn’t been easy, but it has been filled with strength, hope, and incredible medical care that has kept his heart going.

Normal hearts have four chambers that help pump oxygen-poor blood to the lungs and oxygen-rich blood to the rest of the body. But Charlie’s heart works differently—he has only one functional pumping chamber. This means his heart needs to work harder than most, and he’s undergone multiple surgeries just to keep it functioning.

Charlie's first surgery was when he was just 8 days old, and since then, he's faced additional operations, including his most recent Fontan procedure in 2021. These surgeries help relieve symptoms and improve his quality of life, but they aren’t a cure. Every day, Charlie lives with the challenges that come with his condition, from tiring easily to living with lower oxygen levels. Yet, he amazes us all with his resilience and bravery.

This is why we walk—for Charlie, and for the many children like him who are living with congenital heart defects. The funds we raise will go directly to The Children's Heart Foundation to support groundbreaking research that improves the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of these conditions.
